I cannot connect airpods pro to mac book air. message is : connection failed

Your Mac requires MacOS Catalina 10.15.1 or later.
My Mac has MacOs Catalina10.15.6
I was able to connect on my iphone.
But the Mac keeps telling me : connection failed
Mine's the same, I have the update and followed everything in the support pages and they still wont connect to my mac air, but they work on my iphone - bizarre
