Download music to Ipod nano

Need help. I'm having issues downloading the music to my Nano. I have the Apple Music plan and I want to download the music I have saved to my iPod Nano. I'm able to download music that I had purchased in the past to my Nano, but not the songs that I had downloaded with my membership. Can it be done? Am I doing something wrong with the downloads? Thanks in advance
