I tried to simply quit the App Store then reboot my mac but I was still experiencing the same problem. So I tried signing out and now it's working. LOL:

(1) sign out from the App Store (App Store > Store > Sign Out)

(2) close app store

(3) reboot mac

(4) open app store and download Numbers

I experienced the same problem with the other iWork apps (keynote, pages) even though I was able to download a few other apps prior - which is why I thought there was a problem with the iWork apps rather than the App Store.

This is a forum about using Numbers. It appears your problem is about the App Store. We can try to help but that's not the expertise here. Either way, you'll have to provide more information. "Not working" could mean anything from the App Store is down, you are not connected to the Internet, you are not logged into your account, or something else entirely. Any windows popping up with messages? Any error messages? Spinning wheels? Tell more.

I'm having trouble installing/downloading Numbers too -- My last version was downloaded in 2015. I was already using macOS Catalina but recently replaced my HDD with an SSD. I then re-installed Catalina (via bootable USB) on it but it did not come with the iWork apps...

So I went to the App Store and tried downloading Numbers by clicking the iCloud Symbol next to it... it just loads for a second, then stops and the iCloud Symbol appears again.
