See location in find my friends app but not messsges

For most of my friends who share location, I can see them in the “find my” app as well as in Messages (get info). But one of my friends shows up just fine in “find my “ but in messages when I click on get info there is no location field - no map. It’s not “location unavailable”, there’s not even a map.

how do I fix this?

Hello Mario,

Sharing your location in messages is additional way to share your location separate from the "Find My" app.

If you wan to see this friends location in messages, your friend will have to do this to their own device:

  1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone and select a message.
  2. Select the name of the person at the top of the conversation.
  3. Choose the information icon .
  4. Select Send My Current Location. Your recipient will see your location on the map. Or choose Share My Location. Then choose the length of time that you want to share your location for."

Hello Mario,

It sounds like you are experiencing some difficulty with one of your friends locations showing up in "Find My" but not in the Messages app.

To learn more about different ways to share your location, you may find the following article helpful: Find friends and share your location with Find My

Specifically the section that states: "Other ways to share your location" - "In the Messages app"

OK, thanks I'll try that. From what you say:

If you start sharing your location with someone in Messages, you automatically share it in their "Find my" app.

However, if you start sharing your location in "Find My" app with someone, then it does NOT automatically start sharing in Messages.

I think , however, if I stop sharing my location with someone in either app, it stops sharing in both.

This is unexpected behavior as it's inconsistent.

If I go to the information icon, there is no MAP pane that show this friend's location, as there is for my other friends. If I go to ""Find My" app, it looks completely normal for all friends including this one. By the way, my friend sees my location no problem.

There seems to be a bug that Messages does not recognize that this particular friend shares location with me, even though "Find My" dose,
