problem with update

hello,

I just bought a new, unopened MacBook Air 7.2 in Zagreb, Croatia. It should have highSierra OS but it came with Catalina. Is this even possible, or has somebody used this device before and now sold it to me? I'm asking this because I can't update my Pages app due to an error "Pages cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID." ??? I haven't had any apple ID's before.

hope you can help.

The Laptop you purchased as NEW indicates it was Never Owned Before. Therefore, if purchased from Apple or Authorized Apple Dealer, in 2020, it would originally have the latest Operating System. That would be Catalina. If you were expecting High Sierra, that macOS is 3 - 4 year old.

As for the method required to get Pages updated to latest version. Have seen this happen before even me.

yes, ok I did that, it works, and thanks. but still, how is it possible that some other Apple ID is used to get the app and install it even before I bought my device? or it is normal for all apple users to delete and get all apps in order to update them for the first time? I'm a new user, need to ask stupid questions
