Multiple apps in one side of split screen?

Is it possible to do split screen and have one side using multiple apps? Specifically I want to watch a video on one side, but the work I'm doing on the other side involves using chrome and finder at the same time. Basically I want one side to be playing the video and the other side to just look like my desktop with finder and chrome open like normal, nothing full screened. I don't know if that's something that's even possible.
