My new Apple Mac crashes when I plug headphones in

I have a new MacBook Pro and I have plugged headphone in to it on three occassions. On each occassion the computer has shut down. On retart, Google Chrome also appears to have crashed and needs to be "verified" before it will reopen. Has anyone experienced this problem and do you know how it can be resolved?

Audio through *wired* headphones crackles, stutters, pops, cuts out I have one of the new M1 Mac Minis (16GB RAM, 256GB SSD). I've seen various flavours of this problem, usually having something to do with Bluetooth not working, but the usual fix is to try the wired headphone out. I don't use Bluetooth at all and have turned it off through System Preferences. My wired headphone out is the problem. I can't play music through Spotify's app, anything like YouTube through Chrome or Safari, without experiencing problems with the audio. (It stutters, or crackles, or pops, or cuts out very briefly.) It seems to be worse when the machine is under some load. This didn't happen when I first got it, so it might be software, or "age"? Has anyone else experienced this?

Sound output device randomly disappears Here's my problem: I use Apple Music to listen to music. I usually have my headphones (Beats X: bluetooth), but since I'm home office I just listen to music through my speakers. When I stopped using my headphones, the music would randomly stop and continue in 1-2 seconds. First I thought it was an issue with the internet, which makes sense since I'm working from home & didn't have the same problem when I was at work. However, then I noticed that that the sound icon in the top bar goes from this: to this: So I started googling for problems with Macbooks randomly muting themselves. I found nothing about such problem. Then I noticed that in a Skype call, Skype would say that I have no microphone/speaker hardware, which made me open System Preferences > Sound and stare at my computer (with music on) for 5 minutes to see what happens. It turns out that both input & output devices (built-in) disappear from the lists of available devices for input & output. As I mentioned it doesn't only happen while listening to music in Apple Music, same issue appears in Skype calls, while watching Youtube videos, etc. Any help is appreciated! Thank you & stay safe.

OS freezing after switching audio settings Hi, Firstly, I apologise for the title as I don't understand the issue very well and thus can't describe it well. Anyway, I experienced some major fps drops (140 to 0 to 140) in-game a couple of days ago if I was connected to a Discord call at the same time. The drops would persist if I closed Discord and left the call, which meant that I had to restart my MBP entirely for the drops to disappear. I ignored it afterwards as I didn't have to be in a call at the same time so it wasn't going to be a problem. Then, today I had to cmd-tab from my game to connect my bluetooth headset to my computer and the problem resurfaced, the drops started happening again. I closed my game as I couldn't be bothered to figure it out, thinking it would fix it. Alas, the problem didn't fix itself and my mouse kept freezing in place every couple of seconds, probably due to something similar to fps drops, and I had to restart my MBP to fix it again. Something peculiar to note with the occurrences, I can distinctly remember that the audio was somehow broken. For example, in the Discord call, I could hear my own feed, as you would when you're configuring your mic levels, and after connecting my headset I couldn't hear in-game sounds. I am not completely clueless about the macOS but I couldn't understand why the problem occurred or how to fix it. Therefore, I am writing this post to maybe get someone smarter than me to help me with this problem. As a side note, I have been able to use discord and my headset in-game without any problems in the past without problems. Thank you in advance.

Let's isolate the issue.

Is it occurring only while the Google Chrome app is running? Or Irrespective of any app running?

Check if your Mac restarts on plugging in headphone without running any apps?

Also please check if this happens with other headphones / headset?
