Whenever I try to sign in on my Mac Book Pro for Messages, it never lets me sign in and says "An error occurred while activating iMessage. Please contact Apple Support to resolve this issue."

iMessage requires that your computer be correctly login with your Apple-ID. Be sure that part is working correctly.

On more recent version of MacOS iMessage is deprecated and Messages takes over. If you are still trying to launch the old iMessage on a Mac that came with Messages in its /Applications folder, Quit it and start using Messages.
