Adding a teenager to family sharing

I am trying to add my teenage son to family sharing. When I try to add him as a child, the first thing I have to do is enter his date of birth. However the years are greyed out for any year before 2007, ie for anyone over 13.

If I just send him an invite, then presumably he will join family sharing as an adult and I won't be able to set up ask to buy or stop him turning location sharing off.

Any suggestions please?

First create an Apple ID for him with the correct date of birth(if he does not have an apple ID already), This will give him a teen account not an adult account.

If he has an apple ID already, but with the wrong birthrate, follow:

Update the birth date associated with your Apple ID - Apple Support

Then invite him to your family sharing. he will then show in your family as a teen

Good luck!
