Why are there soooooo many DICM when trying to transfer photos to pc?

I don’t like iCloud and I don’t want to use it. I’ve always hooked up my phone to my computer and transferred them from my phone to pc. Over that past few years I’ve used Google Photos as storage, so I haven’t really been transferring photos from my phone to pc. But I recently tried to do it and there were sooooooo many DICM folders! And some only had 1 thing in them. How do I make this a less tedious task? Because I had to go to each folder and individually transfer them to my pc. I don’t want all my images in multiple folders in my pc. Especially 1 image per folder. There just has to be an easier way!
