Do Air Pods work with GarageBand as input device?

Today is September 6 2020. MAC OS 10.15.6. GarageBand for MAC OS version 10.3.5.

I just worked through the troubleshooting steps with the GarageBand (Apple) support and we confirmed that AirPods don't work with GarageBand as input source.
