Notification Center Continuously Crashes, Slows Mac (MacOS 10.15.6)

On my MBP (15-inch, 2019), Notification Center keeps crashing, which is making ReportCrash use ~50% CPU. The Notification Center button is available in the menu bar, but pressing it doesn’t do anything. I also can’t use my normal keyboard shortcut to turn DND on/off.

The system log is covered in Notification Center entries. I don’t know what would be relevant but I can search for something if it may be helpful.

I have tried booting in safe mode, then recovery mode, then run first aid on my drive, and relaunching Finder. Nothing so far has worked. My Mac updated about three days ago, prior to which this issue wasn’t a problem. Maybe I need to reinstall MacOS or an earlier version?

Posting a solution that tygb found to a similar issue in 2017:

Enter into user library : macOS Sierra: Library folder

Find a folder Preferences > drag and drop com.apple.systempreferences.plist to the desktop , restart the computer and see if it works .

Not entirely sure what this does or why it worked, but the issue was resolved after doing this.

Hey petermarkvaleri,

It sounds like you're having an issue with CPU usage and Notification Center crashes on your Mac. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

It looks like you've tried some great troubleshooting steps so far.

Did the same issue occur in safe mode?

Were any issues detected in First Aid?

We'd also recommend trying the following resets on your Mac:

Thanks!
