iMovie crashes when using external drive after putting Time Machine on.

I accidentally put Time Machine on my WD Passport external drive while iMovie was on there too. I then put Time Machine in the trash and then opened iMovies from the external drive. Works fine except when trying to create a new movie. It crashes and then get a "iMovies quit unexpectedly" pop-up every time. I have no idea what I'm missing or how to restore my ED to the way it was before without deleting the saved iMovies in the ED. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, BakingLifeSweet,

I would back up the Passport drive if there is any data on it that you want to keep, and then reformat it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and see if iMovie works O.K. on it. Be aware that reformatting erases all data on the drive, hence the need for a back up first.

The proper way is to keep the iMovie app on the Mac's internal drive in the Applications folder, and then store the iMovie library on the external drive formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

As you probably know, Time Machine should be stored on a dedicated drive with no other data on it. There are special permissions that apply for Time Machine.
