Why won't timemachine restore a deleted file?

I'm trying to restore a Keynote file that I deleted (and then emptied the trash can). I thought that the Timemachine backup would allow retrieval of any lost file, including stuff you'd deleted. Instead I get error 8062. How can I get this file back? I'd be grateful for any advice. I'm running High Sierra on a 2010 Macbook Pro. Many thanks, in advance.

The Mac 8062 error code is a very critical error problem that is mainly encountered by users when backing up data with the Time Machine utility on Mac. This is mainly due to a corruption in the Time Machine utility.

  1. Select Restart through Apple’s Menu
  2. Confirm by clicking on Yes

Use Disk Repair Utility

Disk Repair is built-in utility that helps resolving 8062. Try Repairing theDrive.

Time Machine Restore is at the mercy of the frequency with which Time Machine backups occur. Some people do not allow it to run every hour, but rather risk creating and removing a file between backups, and there is no Restore capability for that which was not backed up by Time Machine in the first place.

Hopefully, as KiltedTim suggests, you have an earlier, uncorrupted version of that file.
