I have a new iPhone 6s. I want to require use of the Touch ID to gain entry to the phone after turning on the phone and after the phone "wakes" from "sleep" mode, which is when the phone is still on but the screen is black and no icons are shown. I want to use the Touch ID rather than a passcode. Is there a way to do that? Thanks in advance.

Please review the instructions in this guide published by Apple ➔ Use Touch ID on iPhone - Apple Support. The guide will show you how to set up Touch ID to do exactly what you had asked for in your post.

Thanks for answering so quickly. The guide link in your email indicated the Touch ID works to "wake up" the phone. However, there appears to be no way to use Touch ID after turning on the phone. But at least I know now what can and can't be done.
The passcode must be entered each time after you power the phone on. There is no option to use Touch ID rather than the passcode at that time.
