can i hook my tv up to my computer using an hdmi cable on one side and a usb on the other? thanks for answering. i have never done it before.mac book pro

No, your Mac does not output video over the USB ports. Depending on the model of the MacBook Pro you have (Apple menu > About this Mac), you'd need either a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter, a USB-C to HDMI adapter, or just an HDMI cable.
