First of all, do you know if you are using iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone? If so, you won't be able to use any tethered method to remove the photos from your iPhone and copy them to your computer, because the best bet is that the photos themselves aren't really on your phone. iCloud Photo Library stores a thumbnail of your pictures on your device so they consume less storage and when you view them, they are buffered in and out like webpages, when your device needs more storage, it removes the buffered info without removing your photos. PS, anything deleted from iCloud Photo Library is deleted from ALL OF YOUR DEVICES so be careful managing your content.
Second, you don't need any special application to transfer photos if they are only being locally stored. Windows has an import tool built into the system, to handle it just as if it were seeing a digital camera. Check out: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201302
