Target Display mode with HDMI cable?

I've got a 2020 MBP running Catalina, and a 2013 iMac 27" running Catalina. I have a USB-C hub for my MBP that has a HDMI port. Is it possible to use a Thunderbolt 2 to HDMI cable to connect the MBP to the iMac in target display mode? Or do I need the expensive Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter from Apple plus a Thunderbolt 2 cable?

Thanks.

TDM has been deprecated.

Please refer to the following Apple Support document: Use your iMac as a display with target display mode.

The applicable requirements preclude using TDM on your Macs: "Make sure that your iMac is using macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 or earlier. You can't use target display mode with later versions of macOS, or with Boot Camp and Windows."
