Voice Dictation problems-writing gobbledegook

My voice dictation feature is seriously malfunctioning suddenly. When I try to dictate anything, there’s a serious lag. I can see the voice vibration bars so know Siri’s listening, but the text it does produce is illegible. I use dictation all the time, so this is very frustrating. Any suggestions how I can fix this please?
