USB 2.0 or Firewire

i have a 2nd generation (touch sensitive) iPod, which came with a firewire cable, and I can send about 20 songs to the iPod in about 7 seconds. Is USB 2.0 as fast as firewire? I used my brothers iPod mini a few weeks ago, the version which came with a USB, and noticed that it took at least 15 seconds to send 20 songs to it. Is the iPod video that slow? if it is, is it possible to use my firewire cable with it - to send videos at faster speeds and whatnot? If it isn't possible, I find it stupid that apple stopped using firewire. Im sure the main reason they stopped is so PC users can use them more conviently.

No, it won't work with firewire. With USB1, it will be slow. But it's only the first sync with iTunes that'll take forever. Subsequent syncs only update on the iPod what's been changed in iTunes, so syncing should take less time than the first sync.

Yes, according to http://www.appleclub.com.hk/firewire/ Apple invented firewire. Apple probably decided not to include firewire on current iPods for a variety of reasons: to cut costs, to save space since firewire requires one or a few large chips, and because the majority of iPod buyers use Windows PCs which most now have USB2.

if you used the firewire with your 2nd gen ipod did it not have a connection for both firewire and usb?i had a 2nd gen and when i bought the firewire cable it had usb aswell, the thing with firewire is it has electrical current hence allowing ou to recharge your ipod thru your pc or mac usb 1.0 did not have power. usb 2.0 does. both usb and firewire upload incredibly large amounts of data at fast rates. when i used my 2nd gen ipod it was fast since it was transfering data thru 2 ports one powered the other was not.from what i have read on these here forums is that you can charge your video ipod with firewire but you can't tranfer any data to your ipod with it. so if you dont have usb 2.0 i would suggest gettiing the power adapter thats usb to a plug interface that plugs in the power outlet at your home or office. as for upload times it took about 5 minutes to upload 12 video files all about 15 minutes long per video. it uploads fast enough, if you need it faster than you need somthing other than an ipod. just kidding, can you not buy a usb 2.0 card for your mac?
