apple tv idiot alert!!

Hi

So sorry but I'm a complete idiot when it comes to Apple TV! I'm thinking of buying but can anyone tell me how exactly it works, cost etc? if I installed it do I still get regular UK channels like BBC?? ITV?? and Netflix / Amazon etc?? an I'm assuming all I'll need is just a broadband connection??

it's sort of like an ipad that use your tv as a display, it's all about apps, if your uk channel providers has apps you just install them there are netflix and amazon apps of cause, the appletv itself is a 1 time purchase but many streaming apps require subscriptions

apart from a internet connection then if one wish to access local stored media one needs a computer with itunes or for newer macs the new appletv app and the computer needs to be running before you can access it's shared media

read some american channel providers only let one use their appletv app if also has a normal cable subscription with them, which I sort of feel makes it a bit pointless, under the impression the bbc, itv and channel4 are freesat in which case that would likely not be the case in terms of their apps. but yes an internet connection and a power connection and a hdmi to the tv is all one needs.

one can move it to other tv's but if one has a say 4k tv and a normal non 4k HDtv (1080p) it may be best to lower the resolution of the appletv to 1080p before disconnecting it from the 4k tv

that's what I do, have an antenna but never view the over the air local tv because their app is better and have more options,

netflix is the only app I use that require a subscription.

though when it comes to how much storage the appletvHD and applet4k has then that storage can only be used for apps, not to store media on it, most apps being streaming apps does not require that much space, so getting the higher GB version is mostly if you wish to play games that needs local texture storage on the device.

ok. I'm so sorry but I'm rubbish with how tech works - even though I love it and am surrounded by it.

Ok, so basically I would potentially cancel my contract with my broadband provider. I would potentially buy Apple TV box, plug into my smart tv, download the Apple TV app and any other apps I wanted - Netflix, BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc etc and all I would need to do is get a broadband only provider then. Is that right?

Secondly, once I've bought that Apple TV box could I use it on a different tv in a different house at a later date provided that other tv also had the streaming apps downloaded onto it?

Does this make sense??
