Check Application > Utilities > Activity Monitor and look through the CPU processes. You can also check in Library/LaunchAgents and Library/LaunchDaemons for antivirus .plist files.

macs have really good built-in apple antivirus software. you don't have to "turn it on". it is always keeping an eye out for you. that along with the "gatekeeper" built-in to help you avoid installing malicious stuff keeps you relatively safe. that being said, don't click on something unless you really know what it is.
