Mouse and keyboard lose connection

Hi all,

My Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard randomly (so it seems) lose connection and don't work anymore.

This is what happens:

  • Mouse and keyboard always lose connection together, never just one of the two
  • This sometimes happens during startup, often in the middle of a sessions and sometimes not at all
  • Most of the time connection comes back after some minutes of waiting, sometimes when connecting something (not the mouse/keyboard itself) to USB and sometimes only a forced shutdown helps
  • When I boot in Recovery Mode (which I have to do for another problem unfortunately) mouse and keyboard always seem disconnected; in Local Recovery connection comes back after some minutes; in Internet Recovery so far they stay disconnected

And this is what I did so far:

  • Hold the devices close to the iMac, turn them off and on, move the mouse/press keys
  • Remove all other Bluetooth devices from the Bluetooth list
  • Run all three options in the hidden debug menu (reset the Bluetooth module, factory reset all devices and remove all devices)
  • Uninstall Android File Transfer as I read in other posts this may help
  • Disconnect all USB devices

None of these actions solved my problem. Any other ideas, apart from hardware repair?

Kind regards,

Jeroen

I know with me I had problems with Magic Mouse 2 and Magic keyboard and the Bluetooth connection. Turned out it was some interference between my monitor and Mac mini mounted to back of monitor. I removed it and all my connection issues went away. Look for any potential problems with other devices using 2.4 Ghz band the same as Bluetooth. Sometimes they all play nice other times they don't. I had a PC desktop once that caused so many problems with wireless mice I finally just used a wired mouse.
