Playing music from a usb stick
How do you play music downloaded onto a usb stick on a 2018 MacBook air? I have the adapter, I just don't know how to get the laptop to play the music.

Thank you so much for a speedy reply. I have tried that but the files seem to be descriptions of each track rather than anything I can recognise as playable. I thought I'd downloaded the songs correctly from my old pro, but obviously not! I've just tried saving a pages file to the stick on the air and that worked fine so I must have done something wrong on iTunes on the pro, but I don't know what. So frustrating. I feel I'm almost there, but just not quite.

Good you recognize the files formats are not Music files. If the old pro is available, we are sure it can be put correct. Just Drag and Drop the Music file to USB. Note, the old pro and new MBA are both using the same Apple ID I hope. Purchased media from Apple iTunes Store are DRM ( digital rights managed ) and are locked to your ID
Yes. Same ID. I thought I'd copied the library, and the file certainly is a list of all the songs but along with loads of code I don't understand. I'll have a go at dragging it and see what happens. Thank you again, very much.
Wow! Huge thank you for making it so clear. The library won't automatically download to iTunes because the file is too big for my air, but all the music is there and I can play it. Hurray! You've made an old person very happy.
The Old Pro was running what macOS? The new MBA is Catalina? Coping the Old Library to USB may not work? Just the actual media file to USB should work.
With the USB connected ( assume it is formatted in a way computer can read it ) >> navigate to USB and double Click on song
Yes. You may be right, though when I bought the MBA I did try to move all the music across and it said the file was too big. The USB stick is (now, thanks to you) a perfect answer.
Hey it was really a pleasure to help. Thank for the points too.
Oh, check my profile - one Old person to another
And you're from Toronto! My favourite city that side of the pond.
