Sim error

I have a phone that I got in the apple store and since I do not use it anymore I would like to use it with a sim from Mexico but it tells me that apple has to unlock it

Sim Invalid Goodday Everyone, So I was recently gifted my father’s old iPhone X, but upon putting in my sim it says the sim card is invalid. Does that have anything to do with the phone being from America yet I use a South African sim card?

Apple does not unlock it. The carrier it is locked to unlocks it. You need to contact your carrier for help with this.
