Sync/Transfer a ebook from iPad to MacBook

During the pandemic I didn't have my MacBook with me, so I had to download and read my textbooks on my iPad. Now, that I have my MacBook I want to be able to access the same textbooks (which I have highlighted during study time) on the Mac. I just don't seem to know how to do this.

I know how to sync from Mac to iPad using iTunes, but it doesn't seem to work the other way around.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
