frozen on swipe up to upgrade

My daughter did an update a few days ago on her iPhone XR (I think she selected for it to update while she was asleep). When she woke up her screen is white and says at the very bottom, "swipe up to upgrade." We have done the hard shut down *up volume*down volume*power button hold* and it will shut off and when it comes back on same screen. Connected to computer with iTunes account and iTunes didn't recognize the phone so I couldn't restore that way. I have an appointment at the Apple store but that is a week from now! An y other ideas of how to get this going? See picture of her screen. Thanks in advance.

Hello Apple_Challenged_Help_Me,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Community! We understand your daughter's phone is stuck at this "Swipe up to upgrade" screen, and that force restarting the device did not work. We're happy to help! We'd recommend following the guides below:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

Thanks!
