Is there a way to make iPhone apps display in portrait mode on an iPad?

Some apps written for iPhone only work in portrait mode on an iPad. But I always keep my iPad on it’s keyboard, and so such apps are permanently sideways for me. This is particularly annoying for apps that benefit from using the keyboard.

I don’t care if the app just uses half the screen, and leaves the sides blank. Just as long as it is the correct orientation.

iPad Air, iPadOS 13

It is up to the author of the app how they choose their app to work. There is no switch in the system to flip the display programmed by the author on its side.
