Hello, Jwalkerman.

It sounds like when you try to use the voice to text function in Messages, your message is duplicated, even though you only say the message once.

It's possible that you might have Voice Control enabled on your device, and this may cause the duplication that you're seeing. Voice Control is a separate function than the voice to text, so it is activating on its own to do the same thing.

If you're using iOS 13 or higher, go to Settings > Accessibility. Under the Physical and Motor section, do you see Voice Control set to "On"? If so, go ahead and turn this off. Then try to send a text message and see if it repeats itself. This guide also has more info about Voice Control.

If you're using an older version of iOS, follow these steps instead.

  • iPhone X and later: Go to Settings > Accessibility, and then tap the Side Button. Under Press and Hold to Speak, select "Off"
  • iPhone 8 and earlier: Go to Settings > Accessibility, and then tap the Home Button. Under Press and Hold to Speak, select "Off"

You can find this information, here: Turn off Classic Voice Control on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!
