Playing .mts video files on iPad Pro

Has anyone figured out a way to play AVCHD .mts files on an iPad?

I’m a video producer and bought the iPad Pro for when I’m on the go. I have an iMac for all my real work but wanted the iPad when I’m on a video shoot to watch files and maybe do some light editing in iMovie. I went out on my first shoot, after getting my iPad. At the end of the day, I plugged the SD card into my iPad only to find that .mts files are not supported, natively.

I proceeded to search for hours to find a solution. The only option I found is to convert files on a Mac and then transfer them to the iPad. That kind of defeats the purpose. :-)

I’m hoping there is a solution.
