Forgot Apple ID and Password

My son has an old iPhone 5S. Every year we simply do a one time top up which lasts him the whole year. Usually Rogers does it for us but with Covid-19 we had to do it ourselves.

He can't remember his Apple ID or Password. Seeing the phone is old. If I were to buy him a new phone and pop in the new SIM card would that allow him to create a new Apple ID and Password?

See if you can recover the ID/password.

Apple ID - How to find your Apple    An iCloud e-mail address is an Apple ID.

Apple ID - Find

Enter the Apple (iCloud) ID and click Forgot Password.

Apple ID - Manage

Apple ID – Forgot Password

If you bought him a new phone, he could create a new ID. If he creates/uses a new Apple ID, he will lose access to some of his data and the purchases made with his existing Apple ID.

Apple ID - create a new.

Apple ID – Create

Apple ID - Could Not Create or Could Not Set Up iCloud message.
