how to upgrade my software

I have a Mac book pro with a 2.5 ghz processor with the software 10.13.6 version. I would like to see if I can update the software beyond that.

If your MacBook Pro is a 2012 or later model (see Apple menu > About This Mac) it can be upgraded to the current macOS Catalina. See information in How to upgrade to macOS Catalina - Apple Support
