ipad pro - when device is upside down, screen shuts off

I rest my ipad pro on a music stand when using it. To plug it in, the tablet needs to physically sit upside down. But for some reason that causes the screen to shut off suddenly in the middle of tasks. I'm not sure if it has something to do with how the camera (from the bottom rather than the top of the tablet) is reading my face position.

How to avoid this problem? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities ipadteaching,

We see that you're having an issue with your iPad and the screen shutting off when its turned upside down to charge. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

Since you have the iPad upside down resting on a music stand, can you tell if the weight of the iPad is engaging the top button since it is resting on this when it is upside down?

Does this happen with all apps that you're using when the iPad is positioned like this?

If you're trying to use Face ID per the article below the iPad needs to either be in portrait or landscape orientation.

Use Face ID on your iPhone or iPad Pro

We look forward to hearing back from you.
