Can video in Screenrecordings in User Library be moved?

I am using a mid-2014 MacBook Pro 15" with Catalina. I found by accident 18 videos of screen recordings. I had saved them to an external hard drive, but then found these recordings in folder MacBook/Users/username/Library/Screenrecordings. Will I create a mess if I move those to an external hard drive and rename them or do they need to stay where they are? What is the purpose of them being in this folder. It seems they were automatically saved there, even though I saved the same files by name elsewhere.

I am leary of moving anything from the system library, but they are taking up a lot of space!

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
