hp printer suddenly 'idle'

After using Macbook and a hp LaserJet Pro M15w since Summer 2018 without any problems, since last Wednesday the printer strikes. At first it was declared offline. I've done reset and since that the printer is 'idle'. Don't know whether it's connected with the last update of OS Catalina, being sure I've been printing since that. I was spending hours trying to deal with this problem, finding in web similar questions from years like 2006, another Mac OS and another hp printers used. Need a solution badly.

When it was working, was the printer connected wirelessly or via USB?

If wirelessly, any additional information in a Wireless Network Test Report (the https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05851564 link above)?

If there is a problem with a wireless connection, you may want to try a reset and a new setup.

See, for example, the Troubleshooting section in the Reference Guide at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05666248. See also the User Guide at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05646631.

"Not sure what you are trying to say. The printer will always show 'idle' when not in use. If your printer goes offline try rebooting your router."

Couldn't Edit my Post in Time:

Those are methods to reach out to HP, to see what they have to say for feedback on this not working.

What to Chat About:

See if their techs have any feedback on what is going on here. They are the manufacturer, so they may have knowledge of a bug going around or an alternative way of getting this to work (such as through a Virtual Machine as I mentioned above).

What I am trying to say: till last Wed whenever I hit Print, it worked. That for 2 years, since I've bought the printer. Last Wed it didn't work, even not with a new toner in. Found it declared 'offline', done the RESET. Thereafter it wasn't 'offline' any more, it became 'idle', further not printing. No error message on the screen, neither when offline nor when idle.

Thanks, but I am in the Moment unable to decide whether this can be true.

Apple released macOS Catalina to the public on October 7, 2019. That means that the printer has been working flawlessly with Catalina 11 months. It printed even after the last Catalina update about 2 weeks ago and since Wed September 9 is it striking .

Apart of that is HP LaserJet Pro M15w in the Apple listing of AirPrint devices and I switched therefore to Air Print. Still no success.

Compatibility is the Culprit:

Having looked into this further it turns out that your installed macOS is incompatible with the printer.

As I mentioned above, your printer is incompatible with Catalina.

So, being incompatible, here are two thoughts:

  • Either move on to purchasing a new printer (might take some research for compatibly)

or...

  • Or spend much less money than you would on a new printer, by purchasing software: Virtual Machines

Running this Printer Through a Virtual Machine:

With there ending up being not solution for Catalina, consider using a Virtual Machine(VM) for this printer (Windows-in-a-window). You would open items in it, and print right off of that. All would be accessed and would operate as desired on the VM. Virtual Machine applications include VMWare Fusion and ParallelsLearn more here: What is a virtual machine? - VMWare Support

Obtain the Drivers Only from HP:

If you want to download drivers for something, do not get them from a Third-Party, as that may end up being a potential Malware Installation or a Phishing Scam. Only download load the drivers from the manufacturer.
