I just sold my old MacBook to someone else and I have erased the apple ssd startup disk. I am just wondering will the backup in time machine will be erased as well or will the buyer can restore the backup in the time machine? thanks in advance.

Regarding any potential to retrieve data, the distinction is between "very difficult" and "impossible". It's not as simple as clicking the TM icon—that option won't do it.
backup disk like external disk? nope. I only sold the MacBook itself. but isn't the time machine back up stored locally? like u can restore it just by clicking the app and restore to any time? don't really know how time machine works.
How did you erase the disk? If you just deleted files, then they could be recovered. If you erased and re-partitioned the hard drive, then that would be much more difficult. If you had had FileVault turned on, then recovering the deleted files would be impossible.

If you are referring to Time Machine's local snapshots, they are stored locally.
Provided you encrypted the disk with FileVault prior to erasing it they are irretrievably lost, along with everything else.
Not too sure if I have had the FileVault on, but I followed the steps that apple recommends to erase. 1. start up from macOS recovery, 2. erase the apple ssd startup disk containing Macintosh Hd and Macintosh HD-data. those are what I have done before the selling. is there any problems with that ? thank you

A Time Machine backup can be used to restore any Mac compatible with that backup. Did you also sell its backup disk?
