Can't log in to this forum or iCloud with suggested Apple ID. Why?

When I go to log in to these discussions I see the screen below. I click "Continue with password" The Apple ID is correct. It only shakes its head "No" when I enter my password. I have to cancel or then click "use different apple ID" It works fine then. Same for iCloud. Why and how do I fix this?

iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 10.15

Hi macruleswhyproblem,

We see you are not able to sign in as expected using Apple ID sign in. We have the perfect information to fix this.

Use Sign in with Apple on Mac

Specifically this section should help.

"On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Apple ID.
In the sidebar, click Password & Security, then click Edit next to Apps Using Your Apple ID.
Click an app or website in the sidebar, then do any of the following:

- Turn off forwarding email: Click Turn Off. You won’t receive any further emails from the app or website.
- Stop using Sign in with Apple: Click Stop Using Apple ID. You may be asked to create a new account the next time you try to sign in with the app or website."
