How do I fix this issue? This is my first iPhone and my only Apple ID.

Are you signed in with the same Apple ID to iMessage and iCloud on this device?
Are you signed in with the same Apple ID to iMessage and iCloud on this device?
Did you try restarting the device? Also, briefly switching Messages off/on under Settings > Name > iCloud? How about briefly switching iMessage off/on under Settings > iMessage?
If nothing else, then I am thoroughly flummoxed. Next step -- Get Support.
