MacBook Air charges intermittently with new MagSafe 2 adapter

My MacBook Air 2017 would not charge beyond 32%. Battery shows normal. Reset SMC, ran diagnostics off internet and got code PPP003 which deals with unplugging and plugging in MagSafe 2 adapter. Still would not charge over 32%. Bought new Apple MagSafe 2 45 W adapter and computer immediately charged up to 56% and then stopped. After an hour it moved to 57% and after another 40 minutes it charged up to 58%. Anyone else have this problem with the MagSafe's intermittent charging?

It took 2 and 1/2 days to charge up my battery with my new Mag Safe 2 45W adapter. After reading several posts here, someone with a similar problem was told to start their computer in safe mode as a possible resolution to their power issue.. I decided to give that a try. For the rest of the day, my MacBook Air has been back to normal. Why would starting my computer in safe mode fix a charging issue? Anyway, I have 5 more days before my appointment at the Genius Bar, so I will see if my MacBook continues to act normal or it reverts back to the charging problem.
