My AirPods are connected but the sound comes out of the computer

Hmm, it seems like that they aren't really connected:
Set up AirPods with your Mac and other Bluetooth devices
You didn't mention if you have a Mac or a Windows computer. In either case, you should be able to go into your settings for sound output and verify the connection and volume etc.
