Security notice for AOL account on iPhone

I have AOL mail on my Apple devices. I prefer to retain ios mail app for my aol mail account. What is the best option to accomplish this and is there any downside or disadvantage to it?

Hello Ron2274,

It looks like no one has responded to your question. Here are a couple things that might help others answer your question:

  1. Are you seeing some sort of alert related to your AOL account? What is the exact message?
  2. Do you see this alert for any other email account?
  3. What iOS version is currently installed on your iPhone?

Please provide as many details as you can and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Yes, it's a security alert. Here's the options:

Option 1: We recommend that you access your mail using our free AOL app for iOS and Android or simply go to mail.aol.com to access AOL Mail on the web.

Option 2: Keep your current, non-AOL app, BUT follow a few steps to get it to sync with our secure sign-in method. The steps vary across different email applications, but in most cases, you will have to remove your AOL account from the app and then add it back again to update sign-in security. Use the links below to follow the specific steps for your current application:

Option 3: You can generate a one-time, unique password that will allow you to sign in to your account using your non-AOL email application. Once created, this password will continue to allow your app to securely sync your AOL email unless you sign out (or are signed out) from your app. You can find instructions on how to do this here

My wife received the same email on her iPhone.

I'm running iOS 13.7

I'm considering option 2. Will I need to save the emails in my inbox before I remove the aol account and add it back?

Thanks for replying, Ron2274, and that additional info, it really helps! This sounds like a message from AOL about using their email service, so you may need to contact their support about this message. But if you do try the second option, usually your emails are saved on the email server so if you remove the account from the Mail app on your iPhone, you can check for the emails on the AOL website to make sure they are still there, and then add the AOL account to the Mail app again. Here is more info from AOL on this:

Ron2274, I used option 2. I removed my Aol accounts from my iPhone and my Mac, then added them back. There was not a "logo" or "symbol" to click as described in the instructions, but I can see that it did change the interface protocol on my iPhone, so thinking I'm all set.

However, this morning, I receive another email from Aol telling me that I needed to update, basically same as the first email you show. So now not sure what to think. Maybe they just resent the email to everyone?
