Turn App Library off?

Anyway to disable the app library in ios14?

I don’t want it, my apps are already organized on my Home Screen.

The App Library is a feature only there for users who wish to use it, sadly apple has no way to disable the App Library at the minute but until a feature like this is added you can not swipe over to that screen, to get back home screens that have disappeared go into jiggle mode by holding an app down and clicking edit home screen and click the dots at the bottom of your screen and check or uncheck the home screens that you want visible.

yeah yeah, you don't understand why anyone is arguing 'the point'.. how dare anyone have an opinion that doesn't agree with yours. They shouldn't even be commenting huh? (silence everyone else that doesn't agree with you??)

The answer to the question that the OP asked 'turn app library off?' is very, very easy, you can't. Simple.. case closed right? But the conversation didn't stop there did it?

You say you want the ability to turn it off? great. I (actually) don't disagree with you. But ranting about it here will accomplish absolutely nothing. Send the feedback to Apple with the links provided.

Completely random, I was talking to someone tonight that had updated to iOS 14. I mentioned the App Library to her and the upset people on these communities. She has (barely) 2 home screens with the apps that she uses. She didn't even know this 'App Library' existed. So I showed her, here swipe left one more time and you can see all your apps in a library of sorts. I don't know that the pre-determined categories are the best, but pull down, all your apps are listed alphabetically.. She was tickled, she thought it was great.

Amazing the problems facing our entitled society these days and people are angry about some feature that they don't even need to use. 'Wow' is all I have to say to this entire thread. Provide the feedback to Apple, move on with your life

These are my sentiments exactly. It's a horrible, useless , annoying and unwanted screen that I am constantly accidentally swiping to. It's not organized in any way that vaguely resembles how I actually work or think about the apps I've purchased. It doesn't even organize identical apps into a common theme. For example, I have 3 ancestry applications that are grouped into 3 wholly different themes. I cannot fathom why Apple has always taken a dictatorial attitude towards its products and doesn't allow a choice for its customers.

Good for you if it doesn't bother but please do not put down other people's wish to turn this feature off.

I hate this feature for three reasons:

  • If you swipe to from right to left one time to many you end up on the library App, even it you do not want to use it
  • Apple decides for me what to show and how to sort my apps? I did not ask for it
  • Why am not given the option to turn this feature off, or at least hide it?

This is one of the many restrictions Apple places on its costumers. I am on the verge of shifting to Android - less nice design wise but it lets you EDIT your phone features.

When someone asks a question, and someone else questions it ("I don't understand why this is a big deal."), I would think it is toning the question down.

So, no one is allowed to have a different opinion? Or not understand why you find something important? I don't understand why people like small dogs. That doesn't mean I think any the less of them for doing so.

Your misinterpreting the Temple. Whether you like the App Library or don't like the App Library, complaining here, on a user to user ONLY forum is pointless. Perhaps it gives you the opportunity to share some frustration, which I can get (sort of), but everyone on this forum is a user like you. No one on this forum created the App Library. No one on this forum can give you the option to do ANYTHING with the App Library. Simply said Apple isn't here and isn't reading these posts.

If you or anyone else is unhappy with this change, tell Apple directly by using the feedback link which has been posted a few times now.

Then don't own a smart phone. Apple, Google and all smart phone manufacturers introduce new features every year on their phones, many of which can't be turned off or altered by the user. None of us own iOS or the operating system on any phone. We have a license to use it and the manufacturers can and do introduce new features.

All you have to do is simply NOT swipe all the way to the App Library. Is that really so difficult?

So just what is it you're doing here? How is bashing me and Idris going to get you more control over App Library? Complain to Apple.

I've come to the conclusion that the state of the world has people feeling so anxious and out of control that they are just looking for a reason to get angry at someone, anyone so they don't feel so helpless. I get it. But it makes me sad.

You can customize your home screens by creating what ever

groups you want and name them what ever.

From this page:

Move and organize apps on iPhone - Apple Support

"Create folders and organize your apps

You can group your apps in folders to help you find them more easily on the Home Screen.

  1. Touch and hold any app on the Home Screen, then tap Edit Home Screen.
  2. The apps begin to jiggle.
  3. To create a folder, drag an app onto another app.
  4. Drag other apps into the folder.
  5. You can have multiple pages of apps in the folder.
  6. To rename the folder, tap the name field, then enter the new name.
  7. When you’re finished, press the Home button (on an iPhone with a Home button), or tap Done (on other iPhone models).

To delete a folder, drag all the apps out of the folder. The folder is automatically deleted."

I have been doing this for years to organize apps into my own categories.

I only have a single home page with about a dozen folders and never

ever see that App Library screen because I never go to it. Out of sight, out of mind!

Agreed. Apple hoisted their own taxonomy on me and now my Home Screen is essentially the App Library with slightly different group names. Useless for me as I don’t install hundreds of apps.

Did you mean "foisted"? If so, no, thy really didn't. You didn't have to change your Home Screen at all. The App Library appears after the last of your existing home screens. All of your folders are still usable. You can create more, delete them, do everything you were doing before. Apple has just added another option. They have taken noting away. Ignore the App library if it bothers you.

And submit your feedback to Apple.

I’m not the biggest Apple defender. I’ve had my issues also. Feedback doe not get an immediate fix or patch. It’s a long process and you will most likely see an update with these issues addressed. Especially if there are enough Users identify it as an issue. There’s already been one update to 14. I’m sure there will be more as iOS 14 settles in.
