How do I change app categories in App Library?
How do I change App Library categories? How do I move apps into the correct category?
How do I change App Library categories? How do I move apps into the correct category?
Answer is: you can’t.
which is really a pretty amazing oversight by Apple. For example productivity & finance should be two separate categories. Why is Word, Excel, and PowerPoint combined with my banking apps? And why is my wallet in Utilities and not finance with the rest of my banking apps?
having to choose between the old way of using folders or using the library, I think I’ll just go back to folders. No way I will remember where things are and as a result I’ll forget what I have so searching is pointless as I don’t remember what to search for.
The apps are randomly put into categories Useless as it is
has to give the option to rename categories and move the apps into the categories the user chooses
how did the great Apple miss this
Exactly! Annoying. IDoesnt make sense to pull productivity with your finance apps. I just want the App Library not even show.

I want to applaud you for awarding the Solved answer to one more person whining about something that nobody here can control. Excellent, your help here is invaluable.
I've always had too many apps on my phone. I long ago discovered that it's faster just to search for them than to try to remember where they are. It's also faster than swiping through screens.

As far as I’m concerned, the App Library is useless. I spent a good bit of time organizing my apps into folder over the years and I prefer to keep my own folder structure. I’m just glad that Apple didn’t make it the default Home Screen.
I've been playing with it a little and so far, I think I like it. I have way too many apps on my phone and they'd gotten a bit out of control. Many of them were in folders labeled "TBD". I mostly open them through Search anyway. So, for people like me, it makes sense. Things are a bit tidier and I don't have to think to hard. But, I can see how it wouldn't work for people who have a carefully maintained folder structure already.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
If there was a little more functionality or I should say flexibility in it, like renaming the folders, being able to actually move the App Library to the first Home Screen, move apps within the library to another folder in the library, then I might be more apt to use it.
I am playing around with it, but like you, many times I just search for app in Spotlight, so this feature right now doesn’t excite me. I’m sure things will change down the road, though.
Right now, I'm keeping the apps I use several times a day on the first couple of pages and moving everything else to the App Library.
Going through the process of moving things has lead to a number of "What is that and why did I ever download it?" moments.
Ok. fair point. BUT! Answer me THIS one.... why are productivity and finance even the same category? Given the volume of apps that could fall into those two categories, I don't really see the reasoning behind this. Chase bank app next to Word. Or Zoom next to PayPal. I wouldn't mentally organize those apps that way.
Which just brings up the main issue, the user should be able to determine which category the app is cataloged. This is purely my opinion, and I'm sure there is a valid argument to be made for why this is problematic, but I GUARANTEE you Apple will eventually add this feature in a future iOS update. And it will be revealed at WWDC like they just did something amazing. "You can NOW choose where you want to place the apps in your library! You can even make your OWN CATEGORIES! WOW, just AMAZING!" You know how they do...
Worse yet: If you mange to extract an app from the App Library & return it to your Home Screen or a folder therein; the app remains in the App Library, continuing to clutter it up in the wrong folder. Now you have the app in 2 places - eating up valuable memory & screen space. This definitely was "feature" that was not nearly ready for prime time.

No, you don't have two copies of the app taking up extra space on your phone. It's more like have an alias (or, if you're used to Windows, a shortcut).

Just goes to show that often, people don't come here for an actual solution, just validation.
Demo. Please do not use insulting comment like this. Johnmd50 HAS posted his issue with Apple and it has been acknowledged. This post was to share with wider audience to show it is an issue which needs traction with Apple
Do you know the definition of the word insulting? I think not. I merely suggested for the billionth time that Apple will NOT, and I repeat will NOT see you suggestions here. Provide feedback using the link that I provided and has been provided over and over again in this thread.
As many others, I was upset not to be the owner of folder’s name. I must admit that I get use to it and it makes my world easier not having to browse all screens. Nevertheless, I would appreciate it if Apple cames to to its job to ensuring that categories are defined across applications in a better coherent way.
They certainly don’t read them, and won’t do anything if we use the feedback link. There sent to file 13. At least comments here can be read by the WWW - forever, and might cause them to stop making such poor decisions.
