App Library is a great concept. But that will stay a concept if we cannot change categories of application. Categories are often related to your personal use cases of an iPhone.

Categories of app should now be customizable

Ok. fair point. BUT! Answer me THIS one.... why are productivity and finance even the same category? Given the volume of apps that could fall into those two categories, I don't really see the reasoning behind this. Chase bank app next to Word. Or Zoom next to PayPal. I wouldn't mentally organize those apps that way.

Which just brings up the main issue, the user should be able to determine which category the app is cataloged. This is purely my opinion, and I'm sure there is a valid argument to be made for why this is problematic, but I GUARANTEE you Apple will eventually add this feature in a future iOS update. And it will be revealed at WWDC like they just did something amazing. "You can NOW choose where you want to place the apps in your library! You can even make your OWN CATEGORIES! WOW, just AMAZING!" You know how they do...

Apple - This is a huge oversight! The same with goes for Categories in "Screen Time". Because Apple categorizes certain apps in certain categories that may be different from how individual users use them, the Screen Time analysis becomes useless because your major apps are slotted in the wrong categories.

Apple is not reading here. Use the feedback link above. And maybe tell the developers of the apps to be more logical about the categories they choose.

VLC, Vimeo - Photos and Video in App Store, Creativity in App Library.
YouTube - Photos and video in App Store, Entertainment in App Library.
And there are many more...

The fact that there is no Photos & Video category in App Library does mean those things would have to go somewhere else. The fact that there are far fewer categories in the App Library than in the App Store means that some things will be grouped tougher. They seem to be in very logical options. I'm going to have to do more research as to why though, they would end up in different categories.

Thanks.

Worse yet: If you mange to extract an app from the App Library & return it to your Home Screen or a folder therein; the app remains in the App Library, continuing to clutter it up in the wrong folder. Now you have the app in 2 places - eating up valuable memory & screen space. This definitely was "feature" that was not nearly ready for prime time.

No, you don't have two copies of the app taking up extra space on your phone. It's more like have an alias (or, if you're used to Windows, a shortcut).

I’m surprised that Apple built the App Library without the ability to rename or add categories.

The app auto arranged my apps intro categories. Which would be nice, except much of the time into categories that make no sense. There is no way to reorganize the apps into proper categories.

Because of this the App Library is of no use to me. I already have my apps organized well on my phone without this added ‘feature’.

App Library is difficult or impossible to change. If I try to move or delete apps it does the same outside the “library”.

You can't move things around in the App Library. You can move things off the Home Screes so that they only appear in the App Library. Once you make them available on the Home Screen again, you'll need to move them where you want them. But once they're on the Home Screen on whichever one you want, in which ever folder you want them in, the App Library has no effect on them.

Agree absolutely that the App Library in its current form is almost useless. I have been trying to move Apps from one (Apple titled) App library Box to another. Tried it on App Library page, moving from Home Page, but all to no avail, and now I see from Forum that you can't. Appalling that Apple has decided not only the Titles of the Boxes, which you cannot change, but also what goes into which category. It should be my choice, not Apple's. It's my new iPhone 12 after all. Come on Apple, Pleeeeese can we decide?

As many others, I was upset not to be the owner of folder’s name. I must admit that I get use to it and it makes my world easier not having to browse all screens. Nevertheless, I would appreciate it if Apple cames to to its job to ensuring that categories are defined across applications in a better coherent way.
