What might be the reason for a text on iPhone iOS being delivered as both a text message and an iMessage? The message is sent as one message, but is delivered to my recipient as two separate messages (a text message and an iMessage)?

A good indication that you or the recipient was in an area with a weak wifi or cellular data connection, when is unavailable it will send it as a text message.
