That would be the obvious solution and it turned out be the right one in the end. What fooled me was that my husband got a replacement card with the same number maybe five months ago. Apple just contacted me this last week. Thanks for your response to my dumb question. I was a little paranoid with Facebook and other scams abounding.
I logged on to Apple on my desk computer and worked with a bank associate. We found out that my husband’s five month old, “identical” replacement card had a different ccv code. Apple’s notification on my iPad turned out to be legit, just delayed. For the $.99 per mo extra storage charge, it must not have been at the top of some list. Just had me confused. All is good. Thanks

Strange they'd give you the same number (don't know what's up with that). It seems that would get in the way quite a bit often, when purchasing items on a card with multiple CCV Code numbers assigned to it.
Great job troubleshooting this.
Perhaps there was a problem with the payment method? Did you get a message or notification that the payment was declined?
