After updating to the new Watch OS, the display only shows a tiny clock face with the correct time. None of the watch faces work.
I tried rebooting, no effect. (Took a very long time to start up.)
I deleted all but one watch face using iPhone, then added one. No effect.
Apps seem to work when I access them. It's only the main watch display that doesn't.
Had updated using iPhone iOS14 (new).

Turns out it cleared up after about an hour and a half. As if by magic. Am wondering if it was just downloading all the new watch faces, although I would have expected that to have been part of the update.
I’m having the exact same issue. iOS14, watch OS7. Created a new watch face last night but still can’t get it to sync to my watch. Even deleted a bunch of old watch faces I never use, but those are still available on my watch.
I would try unpairing your watch then pairing it back to your iPhone setting it up as new.
