Mail notification issue iOS 14

since I updated to iOS 14 and the notifications have been messed up.

new emails show up in the Notification Center which is fine. Then when I open the app and read them they don’t disappear from the Notification Center like it used to be. This happens with more apps but I care about the mail since I receive too many emails and the Notification Center is full of them after being read.

Mine are the same, only Mail account affected is iCloud. It keeps saying I have 3 unread when I don’t. Regardless of deleting account and reinstalling or turning off notifications etc. It’s an issue only since I installed iOS 14

Could be one of the potential bugs for the new iOS.

Maybe try to restore your phone to default? Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Have you tried reaching out to Apple about it?

Its weird that they are saying this a normal behavior (btw im still on 13 so cant provide much feedback).

I can't find a thread saying the similar issue and there is also no notes about mail on Apple's iOS 14 release notes. Maybe someone else can give an opinion about it.

Either way, I am following this thread for more info and/or if I get one.

The issues still exist with the new update as well.

  • notifications don’t get cleared from Notification Center after reading the emails
  • the folders don’t show the number of unread emails
  • No vibration with or without the sound is on for mail notifications
  • Ringer volume gets lower by itself, even though change with sound is off. I even tried with it on as well.

Of course I contacted them. They said that is the normal behavior. When you read your email the notification isn’t going away.

which makes no sense. It has always been the opposite. Once I read the email, the notification goes away. My other phone and my wife’s phone still on the old iOS and works fine.

This only works until you fetch mail from servers again.

removing email and re-adding email account worked for me for about 24 hours. Then back to the badge saying I have 3 unread emails. (I don’t).

my .Mac email is fine. It’s my other IMAP account that is doing this.

Same problem for me, 4 unread emails on iCloud, but none in reality. It usually comes and goes though but the 4 badge on the app is there 90% of the time. Also after updating to iOS 14. Interesting fact, I had the beta version on my iPad Pro and it had no similar issue BUT now that my phone is running ios14 as well the iPad also displays the same error...

I agree, its frustrating and I’m about ready to toss my phone at the wall. Is this their way to make us buy the new iPhone? Apple knows they have a problem and fail to address the issue. Or at least let us know they are working on it. Not a good customer service policy I’ll tell you that. I own all Apple products and its just not right. FIX THE PROBLEM please.

The issue appears to only be with the iCloud mailbox that is causing the phantom badge. I haven’t had it since my previous post, but the fix for me was to go to iCloud mail online via my laptop and empty my inbox entirely by either deleting or moving them all to a subfolder. I had it persistently when first moving to IOS 14, but been good for nearly a month now after emptying the iCloud inbox. You can select all from the iCloud web interface and drag to subfolder, so not too hard. Still dumb.

14.2 is out and yet STILL no fix for this. Also happens on iPad. No - not my iCloud account. It’s an IMAP email and I’ve copied all settings and changed incoming mailboxes, SSL, no SSL, etc. it will be fixed for a max of 48 hours, then starts up again.

bug reported. No response. Soooo frustrating.
