watchOS 7 Battery Drain

I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

Same here! Before watchOS 7 I could get around 30+ hours of battery life with light use on my Series 4. But now, my battery is draining at about 10% an hour!

And that's with hand-washing turned off, Hey Siri turned off, and with Wake Screen on Crown Up only. Evidently, there are plenty of us with the same issue.

I hope Apple fixes this bug soon.

Same issue here. Updated yesterday morning and had to charge in the afternoon. Had a full charge before going to bed, awoke to 60%, back on the charger. Had a full charge again at 7:00 AM and went for a short 3 mile run, down to a 40% charge by noon. This is on a series 5 with LTE. Doing a long run tomorrow, I bet it doesn't make it....

Same here. Been getting though days for years with enough battery juice to last a full day and a half, even after running 4 miles. Since updating to WatchOS 7 on the Watch 5 battery life is so bad to make the watch nearly unusable. Yesterday I got 10 hours before the watch went into power save mode. Today I'm six hours in and already down to 50%. Doesn't apple test these things??

I have noticed excessive battery drain on both iPhone 8 after moving to iOS 14 and Watch 3 after installing 7. However when I turned on power save mode on the phone, effectively killing background tasks (and I normally only allow selected apps to have this privilege) the drain on both devices returned to more acceptable levels - even whilst doing a workout, the watch stopped losing power rapidly as did the phone.

As a workaround you may choose to try this and see if helps, if so this is pointing to errant background tasks / data transfer issues, which will either 'settle' or require an update. There is a separate issue with outdoor workouts not syncing / reading map data and as one of the larger databases on the phone is the health app, maybe this is cause of the issue.

I had the same issue and I think in this update Apple introduce the battery health feature for the first time on Apple Watch. On your watch when you go to settings > battery > battery health - you can see your maximum capacity and there is an option for optimize battery charging. I have found it helps with the charging time when you turn it off, since it charges normaly to 80% and then slowly to 100%.

Same here, nothing new to report.

I'm on a Series 4. Since updating to WatchOS7, I've been consistently losing 7-10% of battery per hour. Disabled hand washing. Disabled sleep. Nothing is working. My battery capacity is 96%.

Very disappointed. I went from ending my days at around 40%, to needing to charge my watch mid-day. It's pretty clear this is not an isolated incident. I'm not sure how this passed QA.

Please help us, Apple.
