watchOS 7 Battery Drain

I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

Just piling on here. Series 5 Cellular, I wear my watch 22/7, charging in the morning when I first wake up to 100% and then going all day and thru the night until the next morning. I would usually have around 20% left in the morning. Never had an issue until WatchOS 7 install. Yesterday and today my watch was completely dead and shut down by 3pm. No AOD and today I tried turning off hand washing to see if that helped, made no difference. Clearly an issue.

My Series 6 should arrive tomorrow, will be curious to see if the problem persists with the new one!?!

Same problem. Series 4 and taking a lifetime to charge!

No change in use other than hand washing turned on. Turned off a bunch of stuff (should have been systematic, but just wanted it to charge past 32% in the 4 hours it’s been on charge!) and seems to finally be gaining charge at a reasonable rate. Might spend some time figuring out what was doing it after I see if it holds charge tomorrow.

Me too on 4G series 4. I charge in the evening and unless I hammer it, the charge will last to the next evening, even using it to record exercise. Yesterday my battery didn’t even last till lunchtime!

I’ve seen people who beta tested say to turn of the hand washing timer in the watch settings on your phone. Mine was already turned off though, so this isn’t going to help me.

Both my wife and I have S4 Apple Watches, until WatchOS 7 we'd end each day on around 40% battery left but neither of us now get through a full day (and that's without any workouts, etc.).

Really disappointed it's so badly broken. I've seen posts on disabling the hand washing feature, but that was already disabled on both our watches. I've also seen the new Battery Health option, mine is showing 90% and my wife's 85% - but again that's pretty irrelevant as only 2 days ago back on Watch OS 6 neither of us had a problem.

Something is badly broken and a fix needs issuing urgently. Never mind sleep tracking, I can't even get through a full normal day.

Also - it's taking longer to charge than previous as well, I haven't done any scientific tests on this yet but it seems to take roughly double the time to charge (although the battery has never drained to such a low level before so maybe this is just because of that?).

Only just started the day and gone from 100% to 92% in 25 minutes.

It's broken. Badly broken.

Really disappointed as I thought the public testing that Watch OS 7 got (which I didn't try) would mean higher quality updates - but sadly some really basic errors have been made it would seem.

Please fix this Apple - or allow a rollback to a working version?

Also just adding another comment to say that after updating watchOS 7 on my Series 5 the battery drain is painful to watch. I wear the watch constantly and usually charge it in the evening (with around 20% left). Now it barely makes it past midday before being completely drained. No change in usage and I did turn the hand washing feature off.

Maximum battery capacity is 96%

Yep same here. S4 Apple Watch. Previous software allowed me to take the watch off charge (100%) at 3:50am, do 4 workouts a day and only put it back on charge at around 9pm with about 30% left. On Friday just gone, charged to 100, removed from the charger at 3:50 as usual and died at 10am. Keep in mind, Friday is my rest day where I literally do no exercise. So I’m not using it to track workouts, nothing. In fact, I didn’t touch the watch at all until it vibrated to tell me that I had 10% left. They better fix this fast! Today is a bit better. It’s 9pm right now and I have 8% but again, I haven’t used it today at all. Only to check the time.

I think unpairing and repairing my watch may have helped. I been using my watch for just over 4 hours today and my battery charge is current showing 73%. It was fully charged when I put it on. I've done one workout of 30 minutes and seen several notifications on my watch, so I've been using it. I have hand washing switched on and it has recorded two today.

Series 5 44mm w/LTE here. Battery drain with this OS is INSANE. I have to charge it at least an hour and half 2 times a day just to get to BEDTIME. Sleep tracking? Forget it, it would be dead before I woke up. As an example of HOW ludicrous this issue it, my battery was at 94% at 5 am this morning, at 7:30 am it was at 74%...all I have done is sit on the couch drinking coffee and watching Amazing Stories. Seems like a lot of drain for being on standby on my wrist.

Also I do not have hand washing on so I don’t think it’s that.

Someone mentioned our watches indexing with the new OS and that potentially creating the battery drain issues. Anyone know how long that indexing takes?
