I actually did this on my phone this morning just to replicate what you were seeing.

  1. Tap and hold on your clock widget.
  2. when the menu pops up, select edit widget
  3. now box opens up and says 'add a clock for a city to check the time at that location'. Under City, it says Cupertino.
  4. Tap Cupertino, a giant list opens. find the city (or a city near) you want the clock to show

Changing the time of the widget is not a 'trick'.. and there is nothing tricky about it. There is also nothing wrong with it defaulting to Cupertino time (it's a world clock widget, not necessarily a reflection of your local time).

So I'm not sure why you are referring to this as an error. What you are showing us is not an error. As Axel has pointed out, you just have to set it up correctly. It's no different than having to configure cities in the World Clock section of the Clock app
